In Bloom’

DERBY — Joan Smith-Walleck, an accomplished painter of porcelain, is presenting some of her creations through July 17 at Kellogg Environmental Center and Osborne Homestead Museum.

Ms Smith-Walleck’s work features realistic representations from nature through a detailed system of paint and heat. Her study of porcelain painting has taken her through Europe’s major porcelain factories and collections including Wedgwood, Meissen/Dresden and Furstenberg.

She developed her botanical style while studying with Dresden artists and continued as she worked with American botanical artists Redenta Soprano and Anne Ophelia Dowden. Ms Smith-Walleck is currently working with the New York Botanical Garden Certified artist Banjie G. Nicholas.
