Newtown High School Nurtury 2009 Graduates

Before parents, Newtown High School students and teachers, and friends, this year’s graduating students from NHS’s Nurtury program took their turn to walk across the school’s Lecture Hall to receive their diplomas on Monday, June 15. Next step? Kindergarten.

Along the walls of the Lecture Hall the students had created life-size paper cutouts of themselves with descriptions of what they want when they grow up, and visitors were meant to guess which student was which.

“Welcome to our graduation,” said Nurtury teacher Stephanie Gacso before the audience.

Ms Gacso gave a short speech before starting the ceremony, and thanked first the NHS students in the Nurtury program, the parents of the prekindergarten students in the Nurtury program and their children in the program.

“Nurtury students, I wish you well,” Ms Gacso said.

She said she hoped most importantly that as the students continue on through kindergarten and onward they will continue to love school.
