9-year-old Playoff Scores

Riebe Contrustion 5, Roy’s Automotive 4: Great pitching from Adam Bergeron, Will Huegi and CJ Shambelan and the timely hitting of Jack Riebe and Evan Kohlstat were the key factors that led Riebe into the semifinals. Roy’s was led by Graham Dowd and Brendan Skewis.

JC Contracting 8, Begany Design 0: Ryan Kost, Owen McInerney and Adam Wolff combined on a one-hitter and Justin Coehlo drove in two runs to lead JC into the second round. Liam Begany broke up the no hitter with a clean single

Roy’s Automotive 6, Attorney Buzzi 3: Roy’s was led by Cameron and Dylan Champagne and hits from nine different players. Attorney Buzzi received contributions from Ben Harrison and Connor Barrett.

CT ENT 8, Stratton Faxon 2: CT ENT advanced to the semifinals with strong pitching from Adam Beckett, Jason Hebner and Rob Lombardo. Jack Corello scored twice and Connor Brennan snagged a line drive to snuff out a rally. League MVP Lucus O’Brien pitched well for Stratton as did Ryan Escoda.

Nuzzo Electric 22, JC Contracting 10: Nuzzo advanced to the semifinals with the fine play from Nick Venzia and Ethan Aug.

10-year-olds

Newtown Bombers 24, Southbury 8: The Bombers jumped out to an early six-run lead and never looked back to record their first victory of the season. In the first inning, Timmy LeBlanc and Robert Katrinak each had two RBI hits. In the third inning, the Bombers tacked on another six runs behind the strength of two-RBI hits from Shawn Fulton and Peter Winans. The Bombers capped off the night with an 11-run fifth inning. Dylan Tyrrell had two hits in the inning and LeBlanc collected his third hit of the game. Spencer Johnson made two put-outs while playing shortstop and Nick Rohrbacher made a nice play at third base.

Newtown Bombers 12, Woodbury 11: Brian Gallagher hit a clutch bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs to rally the Bombers in a come-from-behind victory. In the first inning, the Bombers plated four runs on a bases-clearing double by Ryan Shaw and a walk by Matt Campbell to forced in a run. During the second inning, Peter Winans led off with a single to right field and was hit home on a fielder’s choice hit by Spencer Johnson. Sean Ferris and Dylan Tyrrell also had clutch hits in the game with Ferris having two RBI and Tyrrell one RBI. Johnson and Tyrrell both struck out the side during one inning each of pitching and Nick Rohrbacher caught a fly ball in right.

Newtown Bombers 11, Middlebury 1: Spencer Johnson, Dylan Tyrrell and Brian Gallagher combined to pitch a three-hitter to lead the Bombers over Middlebury on Sunday to improve its record to 3-0 in league play. Johnson struck out six batters over three innings, fielded a ground ball on a comebacker to the mound for a put-out, and was helped by a great play by Sean Ferris in right field. Ferris also made two put-outs while playing shortstop and gunned down another runner at second base who rounded the base too far. Matt Campbell made an unassisted play while playing first base and Scott McLean caught a fly ball in left field to end the game. The Bomber offense was led by Robert Katrinak, who had two hits on the day, and Peter Winans, who hit a shot over the leftfielder’s head for a double. Both players had two RBI during an eight-run fourth inning outburst.
