Cheryl Schwartz, a career development specialist, has relocated her offices from South Main Street to 1 Washington Avenue in the center of Sandy Hook.
âI am very happy with my new location. Sandy Hook Center has become a lovely area over the past couple of years. The building has been completely renovated but retains many touches of the original décor,â she said.
Ms Schwartz, a resident of Newtown, has been a consultant and coach to individuals and organizations for more than 20 years. Her career counseling services includes assessment and development of career direction, which may include comprehensive testing; preparation of resumes and other written communications; job search strategy; self-marketing; interview training and other oral communications; compensation negotiations; and resolution of work related problems.
âI utilize a holistic approach that incorporates an individualâs interests, aptitudes, personality, strengths, values, education, experience, and preferred work environment to determine the appropriate next step,â she said.
Ms Schwartz offers career advice for those who are currently involved in a job search.
 âA creative and well planned job search is very important, especially in todayâs marketplace. Focus on strengths, skills, and accomplishments and be specific about the value that you can add to a company,â she explained.
Ms Schwartz holds free monthly workshops on topics such as networking, interviewing, career management in the current marketplace, and job search strategies. âWatch the newspaper for upcoming dates or call 426-3046 for more information,â she said.
Cheryl Schwartz holds advanced degrees in counseling from Hofstra University and in social work from Southern Connecticut State University and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Hunter College. Her diverse background includes experience in business, education, psychology, and the management of health care organizations.
She has provided services for individuals and companies including GE, Aetna, IBM, The New York Times Company, DuPont, Merit Behavioral Health, Dade Behring, PPG Industries, Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Lambert Key, Magellan Behavioral Health, and the Newtown and Bethel boards of education.
