Lions Club

Tops Fifty

The Newtown Lions club initiated two new members at a recent meeting, bringing total membership to 51.

“The club has not been this large in many years,” said Lions President Bill Denlinger. “This year alone we have gained 12 new members.”

The newest members are Howard Gorham and Frank Gardner.

As a fundraiser, the Lions club is selling raffle tickets on a classic 1966 Mustang convertible. Tickets are available at Newtown Health and Fitness and Center and from any Lions member. Proceeds from the raffle will help to fund the many civic projects that the Lions undertake themselves or to assist others. Recently completed projects include the Treadwell Park playgrounds, the Great Pootatuck Duck Race, the refurbishing of a house through AmeriCares for an older couple in Newtown, and installing new windows at the Datahr House on West Street.
