Christina Andrews Named Student Of The Month By Newtown Rotary
Christina Andrews, Newtown Rotaryâs Student of the Month, was introduced to the club by Pat Walsh, Newtown High School Business Department teacher.
An honor roll student, Christina, throughout her high school career, has consistently enrolled in challenging courses in which she has surpassed the expectations of her teachers, from her French Honor Society to advanced computer courses. As a junior, Christina has already earned college credits at Naugatuck Valley Community College through the schools Tech Prep program.
In addition to academics, Christina is active in many organizations of the high school, including the Future Business Leaders of America; at the recent Information FBLA State Leadership Conference, she placed fifth in the state computer applications competitive event. She is an active team member of the Technology Leadership Academy and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She lettered on the varsity tennis team the past three years and was chosen captain for the 2002-2003 season.
Active in the community, Christina volunteered at the St Rose carnival and helped paint the bleachers at the high school stadium. Besides being a counselor in training at Dickerson Park, she has demonstrated volunteerism through FBLAâs Adopt-A-Family project for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and through FBLAâs Read Across America project in which high school students read Dr Seuss books to the children in the high school early education program.
Christina has managed to balance employment whether it be baby-sitting neighborhood children, performing administrative work at Flagpole Realty, or as a clerical assistant for the teachers of the Fine and Applied Arts Department at NHS.
Teacher Pat Walsh said that Christina is a very special young lady who deserves recognition as âa leader, an active participant, a helper, and a down to earth good person.â Newtown Rotary is proud to name Christina Andrews as Rotaryâs Student of the Month.
