African/World Group To Play Aldrich
RIDGEFIELD â African, soul, funk, reggae, and a twist of hip-hop are just a few of the grooves heard in the music of Zap Mama, a group of five African-Belgian women who have influenced such artists as Erykah Badu, The Roots, and Common.
Zap Mama will perform their unique and exuberant World fusion music in a special outdoor concert in the sculpture garden at The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art at 8 pm on Friday, July 12. Attendees are encouraged to bring either lawn chairs or blankets. In the event of rain, the performance will be held in the museumâs Erna D. Leir Gallery.

Zap Mama incorporates more than just a cappella talent in its unique style of music. Members manage to reference many styles from the Congo to Cuba as they travel the world, making it difficult to pin down their eclectic and universally appealing style of music. Prolific in addition to being talented, the group has put out five original albums, one re-mix album, and has a forthcoming release scheduled for the fall.
