Book Discussion Of ‘Accidental’ Memoir

BETHEL — The next monthly meeting of Bethel Public Library’s book discussion group will focus on Are You Somebody?, by Nuala O’Faolain. The group will meet on Tuesday, July 17, from 7:30 to 9 pm. New members are always welcome.

The second eldest of nine children, Ms O’Faolain was in her 40s when she began working as an opinion columnist in Ireland. She was approached to put together a collection of her columns. Instead, she found herself writing what turned out to be her “accidental” memoir.

As with Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes, Ms O’Faolain’s memoir, which also deals with drinking, violence, religion, poverty, and sexual relations in a country without birth control, is a story of healing and forgiveness.

The discussion will be moderated by the library’s own Lauren Baratz-Logsted, who is a reviewer for Publishers Weekly, a freelance editor and writer. Copies are available at the library. Registration program is suggested.
