Newtown Youth & Family Services, Inc., will again be offering a week long program for children entering kindergarten called “Safety Town” in July.

Safety Town is a national program that was developed in 1964 to teach young children important information on traffic safety, fire safety, water safety, bus safety, bicycle safety, awareness of medicine and poison, and awareness of strangers. All safety topics will be taught in collaboration with local community and health agencies.

Cost is $25 per child for the one-week program, and financial assistance is available.

Five-day (one week) sessions will be held July 21-25 and July 28-August 1. Sessions will run Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 am, with snack included.

Safety Town will be held at NYFS, 15 Berkshire Road. Registration is requested and can be done by calling 203-426-8103.

Preschools interested in bringing their classes are welcome to call and get more information.

NYFS is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the greater Newtown area.

Children in the 2013 Newtown Youth & Family Services Safety Town program learned about fire safety and toured a Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue Co. fire engine with Lieutenant and Deputy Fire Marshal Ryan Clark during one of the many presentations that were part of last year’s program.
