Joan E. Devan, 82, of Moultonborough, N.H., formerly of Stratford, died suddenly, June 18.

She leaves her brother, William F. Thiessen of Newtown; son and daughter-in-law, Karl W. and Nancy S. Devan of Tamworth, N.H.; and a niece and nephew to mourn her passing. She was predeceased by her husband, William D. Devan; a son, Erich; and parents, Ester B. and William F. Thiessen, Sr.

Mrs Devan was the executive director of the Stratford Chapter of the American Red Cross for 26 years. Even after retirement, she remained active in organizing the blood drives at Sikorsky Aircraft and recruiting donors. She made lasting friendships through the multitude of volunteers.

She also loved camping with her family in the early years in Tamworth. The memories of those trips helped solidify her decision to move to New Hampshire in October 2012 to be near to her son and daughter-in-law.

Friends may call Wednesday, June 26, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, June 27, at 10 am, with Rev Cathy Rohrs officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
