The Absolut Gallery at The Inn at Newtown will present an exhibition of mixed media paintings by Angelo Perrone, June 27 to August 31.

The public is invited to the opening reception at the gallery on Thursday, June 27, from 6 to 8 pm. The reception will feature live entertainment by The Blue Yodels, complementary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails served courtesy of Executive Chef Carlos Marquez and Absolut Vodka.

Mr Perrone has generously donated 38 original paintings for the exhibition, and has promised that 100% of sales from the show will be donated to Newtown Police Union and Newtown Lions Club for the mental health of those affected by 12/14.

Angelo Perrone has been painting in mixed media for the last 50 years. His recent studies, called “Impressions of Nature” celebrate his love of natural beauty. Mr Perrone is especially involved with the changes of seasons in the New England area. Elements seen in his paintings are leaves, grass, and natural elements instead of the usual brush in the plein aire manner. Painting in this manner, rather than from photographs, gives the artwork a quality of being truthful to nature and conveys an atmosphere and feeling of a place that is not achievable by any other means.

Mr Perrone’s brush strokes, used in various paintings of his, are Oriental in flavor, stemming from his celebrated ability as a calligraphist. His paintings serve as a visual vehicle to transport viewers to another time and place, striking a pleasant memory, or to spark a factious and imaginary experience.

Mr Perrone was educated at Cooper Union Art School in New York City, where he earned a bachelor’s of fine arts. He also won a scholarship to study art at Oxford University in England. He pursued a career as a book designer and art director for Select Editions at the Reader’s Digest for many years.

Mr Perrone has had countless exhibits throughout his years. He first had two one-man exhibits for Wilton Arts Council, first in 2001 and again in 2004. He then had a combined show with his son at White Silo Barn Gallery in Sherman, for the spring of 2007. That summer, he exhibited in a combined show at Mahopac Library in New York, and then exhibited at the Haight-Brown Gallery and Winery in Litchfield during the winter of 2008. He has also been represented in exhibitions at The Matterhorn Inn in West Dover, Vt.; and again at White Silo Winery in Sherman.

Over 50 of Mr Perrone’s paintings are currently on exhibit in the new professional building at 100 Oxford Road in Oxford. His nature and landscape paintings are part of many private collections in the United States and abroad.

The inn is at 19 Main Street; telephone 203-270-1876 for additional information.
