Town Assessor Resigns
Town Assessor Resigns
Denise Hames, Newtownâs tax assessor since 1997, has resigned effective June 2.
In her letter of resignation dated April 26 Ms Hames gave no reason for her resignation, noting only her effective date of resignation and her last day in the office as May 7. From May 10 to June 2 she was on vacation.
Ms Hames was unable to be reached for comment.
First Selectman Herb Rosenthal said Ms Hames had done a good job as assessor, and he had not wanted her to leave.
Sharon Bowman of the assessorâs office will serve as acting assessor until the position is filled, according to Mr Rosenthal.
The town is currently interviewing applicants for the position.
