Supporting The Team

To the Editor:

I am writing on behalf of our team which participated in the American Cancer Societyâs âRelay For Lifeâ in Newtown June 12-13. We raised over $5,000, and are truly grateful for a number of people and businesses who helped make it happen.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to those residents of the following neighborhoods who contributed to our effort: Head of Meadow Road, Sugar Lane, Robin Hill Road, Shepard Hill Road, Boggs Hill Road, Valley View Road, and Willowbrook Lane. Not only did our fellow Newtown neighbors respond, but they did so with compassion and genuine support.

Thank you, also, to the following businesses for their donations: Praxair of Danbury, Plantersâ Choice, LLC, Heidenreich Marine, Inc of Darien, Founders Hall of Ridgefield, RWE Nukem of Danbury, Ferris Acres Creamery, LLC, Busy Bees Day Care, and to our sponsors, Kesco Electric and Home Improvement Company, LLC.

On a personal note, I am indebted to my wonderful teammates that made the Relay a wonderful experience of hope, love, and celebration of life; thank you to Rosalie Newman, Vicki Bassett, Elizabeth Perrone, Sean Gray, Georgie Kobylanski, Stacey Kabasakalian, Joanne Logan, Veronica Perrone, Nancy Clark, Bob Bassett, John Logan, and Stan Perrone.

Holly Kocet is pushing a false narrative. The facts simply don't bear out any negative impact to the traffic on Mt Pleasant Road. Saying it does , does not make it true. The road handles in excess of 40,000 trip a day. a couple hundred form Castle Hill is negatable.

Finally, The Time Has Come(And Some Reminders)

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

Discusses Moratorium

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
