Students Celebrate

Teacher’s 36-Year Career

Sheila Kolesar’s colleagues, students, and their families recently honored her for her 36-year career in education. Ms Kolesar is among the 11 educators retiring from Newtown schools this year.

A sixth grade teacher, Ms Kolesar, spent most of her career teaching at Newtown Middle School. When the fifth and sixth grade Reed Intermediate School opened in January of 2003, Ms Kolesar moved her expertise to the new building.

Her sixth grade students were excited to surprise Ms Kolesar with the festivities, which included a giant bulletin board reading “Good Bye, Mrs Kolesar, 36 Yrs.,” that each student signed.

The classroom was also brightly decorated with paper chains and flowers, and butterflies made from red, gold and purple foil.

Students, parents, and staff agreed that the Reed teacher would be dearly missed.
