David Southworth Smith
David Southworth Smith, 57, formerly of Newtown, died June 14 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, after a short illness. At the time of his death he was living in East Haven.
Throughout his life he worked with great enthusiasm and creativity as an educator and carpenter. While living in Newtown, he taught at the Newtown Alternative School, served on the Board of Directors of the Childrenâs Adventure Center, and lovingly restored the historic home where he and Gail raised their two children.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Smith of Vancouver, Wash.; his daughter, Morgan Smith, of Amherst, N.Y.; his brother, Alan Smith of Manilus, N.Y.; his mother, Jane Potter, also of Manilus; and Gail Smith of Lewiston, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, in Woodbridge. For information about the service, please contact Morgan Smith at 4285 Chestnut Ridge Road, Apt F-4, Amherst, NY 14228.
