Course Addresses No Child Left Behind Act In Science Curriculum

NEW HAVEN — Among its accountability measures, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires testing of elementary school children in standards-based science by 2006. This summer, Southern Connecticut State University is offering a new course, “Developments in Science Education” for science teachers both aspiring and in the field. 

SCSU Education Professor Emeritus Rodney A. Lane will return to the SCSU campus to teach the course.

Professor Lane plans to acquaint students with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAA) Science for all Americans and Benchmarks for Science Literacy programs, both of which will strongly influence the content and nature of the NCLB science tests.

Attention will also be given to the psychology and pedagogy of science instruction.
