WILDCATS 3, DESTROYERS 0: The Destroyers (6-0) met the Wildcats (5-1) in one of the best played games of the season. Sophie Cerreta of the Wildcats struck early with a hard shot that rocketed past the Destroyer goalie. The Destroyer forwards, Brianna Barry and Emily Boncek, came back hard, but the Wildcat midfield, led by Kelly McPhee blunted their attack. Wildcat Becka Reed was particularly impressive in goal. Destroyer midfielder Lauren Herbert and defender Katherine Stanton put up a good fight, but the Wildcat forwards broke through two more times with another goal by Sophie Cerreta and a final âinsuranceâ goal by Amanda Roy.
HORNETS 3, HURRICANES 0: Rain and lightning threatened, but spirited soccer provided the fireworks in a fast-paced Girlsâ CD Division match-up. The Hornets struck quickly, with Erica Federman feeding Colleen Murphy a perfect crossing for the first goal. The Hurricanes â led by Melissa Paytner â challenged, but only steady defense from Kristen DeCesare, Lauren Gorski, sweeper Olga Virgalla and goaltender Mallory Webb kept them off the board. In the second half, Ann-Marie Shreiver and goalie Alissa Gross were superb on defense for the âCanes. But Federman found a way through to score her second goal of the game. From there Taylor Johns and the Hornets pressured the goal, shut down Paynterâs persistent threats, and pressed hard until Christie Iwanicki found a seam to score her first goal ever.
