20 Years Of Service

By Steve Bigham

Marcia Spiegel was honored at a surprise party on June 25 at Edmond Town Hall. She retired from the tax assessor’s office this week after 20 years of service to the town.

Several of her fellow town employees turned out to wish her well in her retirement. Mrs Spiegel said she looks forward to spending more time with her four children and four grandchildren and sailing with her husband Klaus. The couple often charters a boat and sail around the Caribbean. She also enjoys gardening and photography.

Mrs Spiegel moved to Newtown in 1974 and started out working for the town in the building department in 1982. She joined the tax assessor’s office in 1992.

“I’ve loved it,” she said. “The people I’ve worked with are wonderful and the people in town are wonderful.”

Tax Assessor Denise Hames said she has mixed feelings about seeing Marcia go. “She’ll be missed dearly. It’s hard to see one of your best employees leave, but she’s worked hard and deserves her retirement.”

Mrs Spiegel tried to leave a year ago, but town officials urged her to stay on and let her work part-time.

First Selectman Herb Rosenthal presented Mrs Spiegel with a proclamation as thanks for her many years of service.
