Newtown Middle School Moving-Up Ceremony
Newtown Middle School eighth graders were honored Friday night for their achievements at the middle school.
The Moving-Up Ceremony was at Newtown High School in front of family and friends. Students were given cluster awards as well as special awards throughout the evening.
The following special awards were given:
Connecticut Association of Secondary School Middle Level Scholar Leader â Kaltrina Sedaliu and Erik Bagger.
Sons of American Revolution â Emily Koh.
Michaelâs Jewelers â Mary Anders and James Rouse.
Connecticut Association of Secondary School Middle Level Student Leader â Karoline Engel and Anthony Santella.
Superintendentâs Award â Kristen Davis and Jeffrey Levasseur.
Elkâs Club â Ryan Kraft.
Secretary of State Excellence in Citizenship â Michael Nastri.
Ellen Rogers Memorial â Stephanie MacKay and Garrett Hahn.
Weller Eighth Grade Scholastic Achievement â Monica Latowicki.
Each cluster awarded particular students for a variety of honors including highest cluster average, language arts, mathematics, integrated Math I, science, social studies, citizenship, personal growth/academic progress, and creativity.

Foreign Language awards were given out in French to Mary Anders and Sara Davis as well as in Spanish to Colin Cieniawa, Karoline Engel, and Krishna Patel.
Presidential Award for Educational Excellence is given to students with the highest cumulative academic average for grades six, seven, and the first three marking periods of grade eight (highest 25 percent) with no grade lower than a B minus. Two teachers must recommend the students.
