Menopause Series At St Vincent’s

BRIDGEPORT — “I’m Too Young for Menopause!” a three-part series for women with breast cancer, is the next program for St Vincent’s Breast Cancer Lecture Series. The three sessions will be on Tues, July 10, Tues, July 24, and Tues, Sept 4, 5:30 to 7 pm, in the Hawley 3 Conference Rm of St Vincent’s Medical Center. Series is free and open to the public.

Featured speakers are menopause counselor Carol Jakab, RN, and registered dietitian Ann Zowine, RD, who will discuss the changes that occur during an early menopause induced by chemotherapy and other treatments. The program will also focus on weight gain, heart disease prevention, osteoporosis, stress management, complementary therapies, and herbs for breast cancer patients.

Topics for each session are July 10: “Is it Hot in Here or Is it Me?”; July 24: “Nutrition for Menopause and Beyond”; and September 4: “Managing Menopause without Hormones.”

The Breast Cancer Lecture Series presents cancer specialists regularly on different topics of interest regarding cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.

Meeting on alternate Tuesday evenings, St Vincent’s Breast Cancer Support Group also provides information on support services through the Medical Center and the community, and allows breast cancer patients and their families an opportunity to share their feelings and concerns when coping with the disease.

The group’s programs are offered free to the public, and are paid for by the Swim Across the Sound fight against cancer.

No pre-registration is necessary for attendance.
