Grants Available From LWV

HAMDEN — The League of Women Voters is offering $2,000 and $3,000 grants for Conversations About Education. Any group can apply for a grant – educational, community, business, or civic. The deadline for applications is July 15.

Over 50 Connecticut cities and towns have participated in the Conversations About Education grant program in the last four years. The Conversations are funded by the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund and managed by the League of Women Voters Education Fund Inc. of Connecticut.

The topic list includes academic standards and expectations, child care, helping all children succeed in a diverse society, parental involvement, purposes of education, the question of school choice, school funding, school safety, teaching methods, and teacher quality. A local planning committee makes the decisions about choosing one of the topics for a discussion.

The deadline for the one-page applications is July 15. To obtain guidelines and applications or for further information contact the League of Women Voters office in Hamden at 203-288-7996.
