Wolf Pack Claws To Jimmy Fund Championship
Newtownâs 10-year-old travel baseball team, the Wolf Pack, won the Jimmy Fund Tournament in Bethel this past week.
The Wolf Pack, behind tournament Most Valuable Player Kyle Roche, defeated New Canaan 5-3 in the championship game to cap off the tourney run.
Newtown started the tournament with a hard-fought 6-2 victory over Danbury on the strength of its defense, including a game-saving throw by Jamey Hobar and strong pitching by Robert Murray and Roche.
The bats came alive in the next game against Bethel. Led by Josh Dunnâs two triples, Newtown earned a 16-5 victory.
Newtown battled from behind in the next game against New Milford. Once again, Newtownâs strong pitching and stingy defense was key and held New Milfordâs high-powered offense to only three runs.
The bats came alive late in the game, led by Jimmy Daviesâ home run over the center field fence and Josh Dunnâs three RBI in an 11-3 victory.
In the championship game, New Canaan got off to an early 3-1 lead, but was held scoreless the rest of the way behind Ben Terryâs three scoreless innings pitched and a key heads-up double play turned by Dunn and Shane Demers. Roche closed the game.
Newtownâs offense was bolstered by key hits from Tess Davenport, Cole Demirjian, and Dunn.
