Where Reading Meets Eating
Where Reading Meets Eating
The C.H. Booth Library is accepting registrations for its debut Edible Book Contest, scheduled for Saturday, July 16, at the library.
There are few rules for the contest. Each creation must be edible, family friendly, and somehow related to a book. It can be a representation of the book, or its characters, a pun on the title, or made to look like the book itself.
The entries do not have to be cakes, or even require any cooking at all, as long as they are edible. Entries should be brought to the C.H. Booth Library, July 16, at 10 am. A team of library judges will evaluate the works in a variety of categories and age levels.
Entry forms are available at the main circulation desk of the library between now and July 15.
In preparation for the event, the library is hosting two demonstrations. Retired home economics teacher Mary Thomas will lead a cupcake and edible art demonstration, Tuesday, June 28, at 6:30 pm.Â
Fantasy Food Prep for Teens is scheduled for Thursday, June 30, from 2 to 3 pm. Learn basic techniques of cake decorating, working with fruits and vegetables, and more from teen Rachel Crosby and her mother, Lori Crosby. The mother-daughter kitchen team loves what they do and are eager to share the skills they know. Participants are asked to bring a good paring knife to the class and a cutting board, if possible. This class is limited to 15 young adults in rising grades 6 to 12.
The Booth Library is a 25 Main Street. Registration for the food programs is online at www.chboothlibrary.org. For more information, call the library at 203-426-4533.
