Summer Art Program For Adults
The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School is offering a summer art program for adults called, âColors of the Soul: Experiencing the Four Temperaments.â
The course will take place over six Sunday afternoons, starting on July 10. The workshop will be offered from 1 to 4 pm, and will be taught by school faculty members Melissa Merkling, Janelle Beardsley, and Carol Reznikoff.
Billed as a summer program of artistic self-discovery for adults, the workshop will introduce participants to the temperament theory of personality, first identified by the ancient Greeks and elaborated by Medieval mystics. According to the temperament theory, each human exemplifies varying degrees of four energies known as the choleric, sanguine, melancholic, and phlegmatic temperaments, which correspond in nature to the elements of fire, air, earth, and water. Participants will learn to identify the temperaments in themselves and in others, and explore them in various media: singing (rounds and Gregorian chants), plant-dyeing and knitting with wool, and watercolor painting, according to the school.
No previous experience is required. Tuition is $200, payable in full by July 1, and includes all materials. For further information call 203-426-1712. The course will be offered in Housatonic Valley Waldorf Schoolâs Upper Grades building at 1 Jacklin Road in Newtown.
