The Creative Writing Summer Camp for young adults, part of the year-round peer group for young writers at the C.H. Booth Library, is accepting registration online, at the libraryâs website www.chboothlibrary.org. The camp will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 pm for rising grades 6 and 7, and from 6 to 8 pm for rising grades 8 and 9, Thursday, July 7, 14, 21, and 25, and Monday, July 28. A makeup date of August 10 will take place, if needed.Â
Participants are expected to attend all five sessions. Each group is limited to ten students who either live or attend school in Newtown. All sessions will allow time for writing and sharing stories, as well as creative activities and one-on-one communication between adults and young people.Â
The Creative Writing Summer Camp welcomes Connecticut author Sarah Darer Littman as this yearâs leader..
Ms Littman spent much of her adult life doing things she did not really plan to, including diverse occupations such as financial analyst and as a farmerâs wife, until she found her true calling as a writer. Her first novel, Confessions of a Closet Catholic, won the 2006 Sydney Taylor Book Award for Older Readers. Her novel Life, After was a 2011 Sydney Taylor Honor Book and won first prize for young adult fiction in the Connecticut Press Club annual awards. She is also the author of Purge, one of Bank Street College of Educationâs 2010 Best Books of the Year, and the soon to be published Want to go Private? In addition to writing for teens, Ms Littman is an award-winning columnist for Hearst Newspapers (CT) and CTNewsJunkie.com.
