Southbury Farmers’ Market Opens June 30

SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Farmers’ Market will open for the 2011 season on Thursday, June 30 at 2 pm. The market is located at Southbury Town Hall at 501 Main Street South (Route 6).

Participating farmers include Mitchell Farm from Southbury with vegetables and fruit; Stoneledge Hollow Farm from Southbury with vegetables, jams and jellies and organic eggs; The Farm from Woodbury, with annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, maple syrup, honey and veggies; and Sunrise Sunset Farm of Bethlehem, with vegetables including celebrated garlic.

Also Goatboy Soaps of New Milford will return, with soap and body products; Daffodil Hill Growers of Southbury will be bringing early summer veggies, annuals, and perennials; Freshwater Farm from Morris will have vegetables and goat cheese from Griffin Farmstead; Averill Farm from Washington will bring their famous cider donuts along with pies using seasonal fruit, jams, dog biscuits, some gluten free cookies and, as the season progresses, peaches and apples.

Additional vendors will include Bruce Lyon from Victoria’s Wood Fired Pizza of Danbury, who will be using a wood fired brick oven in the back of his truck to make tasty creations using ingredients from the market; Whimsical Olive Branch from Watertown, with a selection of infused olive oils and vinegars; and Nonni’s Restaurant in Watertown, with a selection of fresh pasta, sauces, stuffed breads, fresh baked bread and Italian pastries.

The Southbury Farmers’ Market is a producer only event, so the farmer who is selling the fruits and vegetables is also the farmer who grew the product, or the specialty food maker who made what is being sold.

The market will run on Thursdays from 2 to 6 pm until October 13.

WIC and Senior FMNP are both accepted.
