NHS Students Give Money To Wounded Warriors Project

With American flags still in place outside Newtown High School on Friday, June 17, members of the school’s Military Assistance Club met with Sandy Hook-based Leaps of Faith Waterski club representatives Joel Zeisler and Linda Tang and Newtown Police Officer Matthew Hayes to give a $420 check to Leaps of Faith and the Wounded Warriors Project.

“That was awful nice of you guys,” said Mr Zeisler,  Leaps of Faith Waterski club president. “That was a lot of work.”

To raise the $420, Military Assistance Club members placed 500 American flags at the entrance of the school, and asked students, staff, and community members to sponsor a flag for $1. While not all the flags were sponsored, the students placed each of the 500 flags outside the school to mark the effort anyway.

The Military Assistance Club is a student-based organization that supports the armed forces.

Nicole Davis, co-leader of the Military Assistance Club with Kyra Murray, coordinated the event. Other members of the student club are Neil Davis, Tess Murray, Matt Mossbarger, Jess Haitz, and Bri Hart.

To raise awareness for the effort, Nicole said the club sent out e-mails and posted an announcement on the high school’s blog.
