Daughter Of Historic Newtown Family
Mildred L. Smith, 104, the wife of the late Hubert L. Smith and a resident of Wilton for more than 75 years, died June 19. She was born in South Britain, January 5, 1907, a daughter of Catherine and Frederick Luf of Newtown.
Mrs Smith was a graduate of Hawley High School in Newtown, and of the Teachers Training School in Jamaica, Long Island. She taught in the public schools of New York City and also in Wilton.
Mrs Smith had been active with the Congregation of Jehovah Witness in South Salem, N.Y.
Survivors include twin daughters, Barbara Chernauskas, and her husband Joe, of Watertown and Beverly Quatrano, and her husband Richard, of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Oakville, Conn.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Services are to be private.
