Newtown Knights 5, Shelton 3 – Anthony Gruce ripped a single to left, driving home two runs to break a fourth-inning tie and leading the Knights to the win. Dale Neves, Tory Deakin and Mike Coates added hits to pace the offense. Keith McGrath and Tyler Edwards pitched effectively while Coates earned the save with two innings of relief. The Knights have won seven games against only one loss in Connecticut Babe Ruth League play.

U10

Newtown Lightning 8, New Canaan 5 – Kaleb Rowe pitched two shutout innings and combined with Troy Larsen and Michael Koch to strike out nine batters and lead the Newtown Lightning to the win. Koch, Max Lopez and Ben Stoller all made stellar defensive plays while Stoller doubled twice and drove in three runs. Chris Devaney also doubled in a run to pace the offense.

Newtown Lightning 19, New Canaan B 0 – Chris Devaney smacked a bases-loaded triple and Alex Roche worked two walks and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded to drive in three runs. Kaleb Rowe, Ben Stoller and Ryan Daignault each knocked in two runs in a 12-hit Lightning attack. Wes Tardie scored three runs while two each were scored by Tyler Gibney, Robert Andreotta, Daignault, Roche, Lopez, and Morrissey.

Mastercard 8, TR Paul 7 – Joey Fellin drilled a two-out, two-strike base hit down the line to lift Mastercard to an 8-7 win over TR Paul in the U10 playoffs. The hit capped a dramatic sixth-inning comeback for Mastercard. Vikram Makayee’s RBI had tied the game to set the stage. Wes Tardie (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBI) and Mario Pizighelli (2-for-2, RBI) contributed offensive firepower. Alex Roche, Nick Gerbo and closer Tyler Gibney pitched well with the aid of a pair of outfield web-gems by Fellin and Tardie. For TR Paul, Sam Ashey pitched well while JP Blanco and Ryan Daignault turned in impressive performances on the mound. Mike Lobosco and Stephen Conway had multi-hit games and scored a pair or runs apiece.

Mastercard 6, Hickey Septic 4 – Clutch seventh-inning hits by Brock Chimileski and Mario Pizighelli drove in Mike Allwein and Tyler Gibney, carrying Mastercard into the semi-finals. Mastercard had threatened in the sixth when Joey Fellin pulled a double down the line, but was stranded at third. There was stellar outfielding by Fellin, Pizighelli and Chimileski. For Hickey Septic, Stefan Hennessy, Andrew Kelley and Nick Heron pitched well. Hennessy reached safely four times and scored a pair of runs as Dan Poetl rapped out three hits.

Coldwell Banker 8, Fairfield Irrigation 0 – Jake Lambert and Connor Roche led the way offensively with multiple hits and they also both pitched scoreless ball. Alister Sore pitched well in his pitching debut while Virgil Procaccini had two hits for Fairfield.

Coldwell Banker 9, Associated Refuse 6 – Peter Manfredonia and Kevin Conte powered the Coldwell offense with three hits apiece. Travis Audet pitched well in his debut and also contributed with two hits. Alex Klang, Deegan Beauchemin and Stephen Price pitched scoreless inning for Associated Refuse as Ryan King had a big hit and RBI. Deegan Beauchemin went 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored as Alex Klang went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Robert S Ponsky DDS 6, AERCO International 5 – Nick Strokis pitched a great game and played stellar D to lead Ponsky. Kaj Djonne went 3-for-3 to lead the offense. Nicholas Nelson went 3-for-3 and scored once while Nicholas Lotrecchiano went 2-for-3 with a two-run double to power AERCO’s offense.

AERCO International 8, Greentree Toyota 1 – Eric Cascone went 3-for-3 and scored twice while Jack O’Neill went 2-for-3 with a double to lead AERCO to the win. Jack Beal’s defensive brilliance and stellar pitching of Chris Daly wasn’t enough for Greentree in this rain-shortened affair.

Associated Refuse 5, Fairfield County Irrigation 3 – Jim Parker went 3-for-3 with a big double and a season high three RBIs to lead Associated. Clayton Gattey and Richie Sadlon also pitched extremely well. Michael Biancardi was 2-for-3 with a big hit and game tying RBI to power the Associated offense. For Fairfield, Virgil Procaccini led offense and defense, collecting three hits and making a diving catch in the field. Matt Argraves, Brandon O’Sullivan, Ricky LaPak and Luca Imbimbo all had two hits for Fairfield.

Honeywell 10, Apex Glass 3 – Bobby Archiere and Jimmy Widman had three hits each and Lane Kummer turned in a great defensive performance to lead Honeywell. For Apex, CJ Dunn had three hits and Harry Duffy pitched well. Chris Hartley was exceptional behind the dish.

Honeywell 5, Greentree Toyota 1 – Danny Romeo’s solid performance in his season debut at pitcher and timely hitting from Jason Ferrari and Nick Roche led another strong overall effort by Honeywell. For Greentree, Kai Hedin whacked three hits and had a defensive hat trick by recording three outs in one inning and Patrick Berger doubled and combined with Joey Carrino to turn a double play.

Greentree Toyota 3, Robert S Ponsky DDS 0 – Timmy Drotar knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded double, Jacob Burden had two hits and scored twice and Jared Tenenbaum thwarted a late Ponsky rally with a dominating defensive performance to lead Greentree Toyota. For Ponsky, Carl Whippie and Scott Anderson sparked the D as Nick Strokis and Matt Janco had big hits to fuel the offense.

Mobil 1 Lube Express 4, DaSilva Law Firm 4 – Julian Dunn went 3-for-3 with a monstrous double and pitched a spectacular third inning, retiring the side in consecutive order, to lead Mobil 1 Lube Express. For DaSilva, Calvin Witteveen made a find catch on a line drive at short and Andy Braun and Logan Walsh each had doubles with Braun scoring three runs. Stephen Grasso had three singles and also scored three runs.

BW Retail Real Estate Group 2, Apex Glass 0 – Mark Dowling had a pair of hits and Victor Vasquez struck out three for Apex.
