St Paul’s Church Fair Will Officially Usher In Summer This Weekend

WOODBURY — A sure sign of summer is the annual St Paul’s Fair, to be held this year on Saturday, June 25, on the grounds of St Paul’s Church.

For 58 consecutive years, this fair has attracted crowds from near and far. Hundreds of people are expected to enjoy the fair which has become legendary for its small-town country ambiance, its exciting shopping, and its delicious food.

Fair number 58 offers better than ever shopping.

The book department is full of great finds. This year among the 5,000 volumes, there will be an abundance of mysteries and good current novels.

With an entire room filled with white elephant items, The Treasure Chest promises everything is “Antique, Boutique or Unique.” A huge outdoor tag sale, and a large selection of furniture, will all be offered.

Under a colorful tent there will be baked goods, delicious homemade pie by the slice and fresh homemade bread, also art, electronics, tapes and CDs, and a huge selection of children’s toys and games for sale.

For the children, Dimples The Clown will spend time delighting everyone as she strolls the grounds. She will also entertain during her show inside the church. And as always, the fair will have its old fashioned, low tech, country games.

“We create an atmosphere that offers people fantastic shopping, wonderful food and just plain fun,” said event chairman Diane Heavens. “And it’s a delightful, safe place for families with children.”

The Chamber Singers, a special section of Connecticut Choral Society, will offer a free concert inside the church at 11 am. This is always a great favorite with fair patrons.

“The annual fair is a very important part of our life as a church community,” Mrs Heavens explained. “To us it is a blessing to be able to work together and create something that many people enjoy so much.”

Traditionally, one-half of the fair proceeds go to the church’s Christian Stewardship Fund, from which donations are made to a range of organizations, with particular emphasis on those in the greater Waterbury area. This Fund also awards a $1,000 scholarship annually to a graduating senior from Nonnewaug High School.

The church is at 294 Main Street South (Route 6) in Woodbury. The fair will run from 10 am to 4 pm. Free parking and a shuttle bus will be located around the corner at Mitchell Elementary School.
