Three Violations

Police said that while on patrol about 1:51 am June 20, they stopped motorist George Guevarez, 44, of Danbury on Route 6 because he had a cancelled vehicle registration.

On investigating, police charged Guevarez with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving while under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance.

After arrest processing, police released Guevarez on a written promise to appear July 6 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicular Vandalism

Sometime between 9:15 and 9:30 pm on June 11, someone apparently used a key to deface the exterior of a red Subaru sedan that was parked outside the Dunkin’ Donuts shop at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street. Patrol Officer Gary Wheeler is investigating and asks anyone with information on the incident to contact police at 426-5841, or at 270-8888.

Computer Theft

On June 17, the principal of Newtown Middle School informed police that her laptop computer was missing from her school office.

On investigating the complaint, police learned that a male student had been serving an in-school suspension in the principal’s office on June 16.

On June 18, that boy brought the missing computer to the police station and was arrested on a charge of third degree larceny, police said. The charge is felony involving the theft of goods worth more than $1,000.

Police released the boy into the custody of his mother for a June 27 appearance at Danbury Juvenile Court. The identity of people under age 16 who are charged with crimes is shielded by state law.

DUI Crash

Motorist Claudio Basso, 45, of 3 Knollwood Drive was driving an automobile southward on Mile Hill Road South about 2:08 pm June 18, when he drove off the road’s northbound shoulder and struck a utility pole, breaking it, police said.  The accident occurred south of Mile Hill Road South’s intersection with Nunnawauk Road.

Basso was not injured, police said. Police charged Basso with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right on a curve.

The accident required utility crews to install a new utility pole, posing travel delays.

Police said they released Basso on $80 bail for a July 6 court appearance.

Main Street Collision

Motorist Charles Rio, 28, of Stratford was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee southward on Main Street near the police station about 8:30 am June 20, when southbound motorist James Mulberry, 47, of 70 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1998 van, backed up into the front end of the Jeep, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Mulberry for unsafe backing.
