Bobby Pattison Wins Scholarship
By Susan Coney
Senior Bobby Pattison did not know why he had been summoned to the guidance office last Friday. He didnât think he was in trouble. One of his favorite teachers, Latin teacher Jennifer Huettner, had jokingly told him to report to the office for some type of Latin award. Although he did not receive a Latin award, Bobby was selected to receive the Ernest J. Badillo Memorial Scholarship Award.
Bobby was selected to receive the $1,000 scholarship based on his athletic and academic record. His academic advisor Deidre Croce said that Bobby has persevered and overcome so many obstacles. She said, âBobby is held up in the highest regard by peers, teammates, teachers, and staff. He is an all around good-hearted person. He is a role model and very deserving.â
Bobby was a linebacker and running back on the football team. This past winter he was on the wrestling team and he also played lacrosse. He was selected by The Newtown Bee as male Athlete of the Year. He is a member of the National Latin Honors Society. He credited Ms Huettner and Steve George, history teacher and football coach, for inspiring and guiding him.
Bobby will attend Central Connecticut University this fall where he plans to study either secondary education or physical education. He also expressed an interest in coaching.
