“It has been an honor and a privilege to have been Marcus’ basketball coach at NHS.  He has been one of those athletes who might only come around once in a coach’s career. His incredible physical skills, combined with his athletic instincts and intelligence, have made him in to an outstanding basketball player. Marcus was not a great soccer player playing the game of hoops for fun; he was also a great schoolboy basketball player as well. Had basketball been his primary sport, we would all be enjoying Marcus for four more years as the starting point guard for a Duke or a UConn! He has that much ability – he can shoot the ‘3’ with grace and accuracy and has the quickest first step I have seen in a schoolboy player. As great a player as Marcus Tracy has become, he is that much more a better young man. He is the nicest, most respectful, considerate, classy young man you will ever meet. He is young adult who truly ‘gets it!’  He possesses a strong sense of values, commitment, and inner drive not often seen in high school athletes. Marcus is a sports superstar, yet one would never know this when you get to know this person. He has a wonderful personality and a sense of humor and is all about ‘the team.’ Marcus required surgery his junior year, yet never missed a single game or practice. He even came to practice the day of his surgery, cheering and encouraging his team. I recall after only his third day of therapy and recuperation he was off by himself shooting three-pointers. He made 13 in a row (three days after surgery!) and was quite embarrassed when he realized the coaches were observing (and counting) his shooting drill. We were in awe, yet Marcus directed us back to our practice drills! He was an outstanding person and player for us at Newtown; he made me a better person and a much better coach! We appreciate everything this player, and person, contributed to Newtown basketball during his high school career.” – NHS basketball coach John Quinn
