Families Sought
Summer vacation, that special time of year for all children, is not far away. Thanks to the many families in Connecticut and throughout the Northeast, more than 5,000 New York City children from low-income neighborhoods enjoyed free vacations at the home of a volunteer host family last summer. The Fund is seeking more Connecticut families to host a Fresh Air child this summer.
âA lot of what you do for the kids are simple things, the things you do every day in your yard and your neighborhood,â says a Fresh Air host. Last summer, nearly 300 Fresh Air children visited families in Connecticut. âYou do things that you canât do in the city, like fishing, camping, and playing out in the woods,â explains one Fresh Air child.
There are no financial requirements for hosting a Fresh Air child. Hosts can select the gender and approximate age of their visitor. First-time visitors are 6 to 12 years old, and reinvited youngsters may participate in the program through age 18.
