Dr Nazer Named Officer At Danbury Health Systems
DANBURY â Danbury Health Systems, the parent company of Danbury Hospital, has announced the appointment of Karim Nazer, MD, of Newtown as vice president for planning.
 Dr Nazer is a fellow of the American College of Physicians with specialties in internal medicine and infectious diseases, and has held various medical and administrative roles at Danbury Health Systems and Danbury Hospital for the past 12 years. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Infectious Diseases, and the American College of Physician Executives.
In his new role, Dr Nazer will be responsible for direction of Danbury Health System strategic planning functions.
âA successful practicing physician with a deep understanding of the systems and administrative processes found in hospitals, Dr Nazer offers a unique set of attributes that will serve our organization and our community well,â said CEO Frank Kelly in announcing the appointment.
Prior to this appointment, Dr Nazer was executive director/chief medicine specialties for the Danbury Office of Physician Services; medical and administrative director for Danbury Health Care Affiliates; director of employee health and safety for Danbury Health Systems; and an infectious disease consultant for Danbury Health Systems.
 In each of these positions, Dr Nazer planned and implemented many process improvements to help enhance patient care and outcomes, while executing new systems and best practices to increase customer satisfaction and promote a workplace culture of safety and excellence. Under his leadership the health system established its HIV Clinic in 1994, and the premier occupational medicine program in the region, serving more than 200 employers.
Dr Nazer completed his internal medicine residency at Danbury Hospital and Yale University School of Medicine, after earning his medical degree at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquz Urena in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He earned a masterâs degree in public health and completed a combined infectious diseases fellowship at the Michael Reese Medical Center/University of Chicago/University of Illinois in Chicago. He also holds a masterâs in business administration from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, Advanced Member of the American College of Physician Executives, American Society for Quality, Infectious Diseases Society of America, MGMA/ACMPE and ACHE.
