Composersâ Group For Young Pianists Forming
Julieâs Piano Workshop of Sandy Hook and Woodbury announces a summer Young Composersâ Group for area piano students who have had at least two years of lessons.
Students will have an opportunity to improvise at the keyboard, create melodies, construct chords, and write the music they hear in their heads. Students will build on what they already know, gaining confidence as new skills are learned.
At the end of the session they will receive a professionally printed score of their original music.
The classes will be taught by Elena Allmand, a graduate of New York University and a former music teacher in New Orleans and Norwalk.
âMany adolescents choose to create their own music on a guitar,â says Ms Allmand. âLetâs give a âhands upâ to our young piano students so they can be ready for the exploding world of opportunities available in the music industry today.â
She goes on to say that the time to encourage music-writing is when kids are first learning mastery of the instrument.
âI want to be the one to open the window of opportunity at their moment of musical readiness â to encourage creativity and watch it grow,â she says.
Unique teaching aids designed by Ms Allmand will be used in the classes.
Sessions will be held in July and August and enrollment is limited. For more information, call 426-7924.
