Middle Gate Elementary School kindergarten students showcased their singing and dancing talents at a special end of the year celebration on June 9, in the school's auditorium.

Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae.

After studying ocean life during the school year and taking a field trip to the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, the students performed a play based on the children's book

Students took the stage in front of their families wearing handmade costumes representing different ocean animals.

Kindergarten teacher Melissa Massett's students were dressed as lobsters, stingrays, and deep sea fish; Dorothy Schmidt's class was dressed as blue whales, barnacles, walruses, penguins, and polar bears; Dori Parniawski's class was dressed as jellyfish, swordfish, sharks, and octopi; and Tanya LaBonia's students were dressed as crabs, turtles, dolphins, and angelfish.

After the play, the children sang a variety of songs, including some in Spanish, to show what they had been learning in school.

At the end of the performance, the families of the children were all invited to go back to the students' classrooms for treats and to watch a slide show that Ms LaBonia put together of the students to celebrate the end of the school year.
