Waterbury Man Arrested On Multiple Charges
Newtown police report they stopped a vehicle stuck in traffic congestion on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center, whose driver had eluded Monroe police following a chase there.
Newtown police said that early on the afternoon of June 14, they spotted a vehicle matching a description that was provided by Monroe police in connection with an earlier police pursuit in Monroe.
Newtown police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Shaquan Moore, 32, of Waterbury with driving with a suspended license and with illegal possession of a controlled substance (prescription drugs).
Newtown police then released Moore on $5,000 bail for a June 28 appearance in Danbury Superior Court. Moore was then transported to Monroe to be arrested by police there.
According to Monroe police, at about 1 pm that day, they had stopped Moore to investigate near 435 Main Street (Route 25), because Moore had been driving at high speed.
Monroe police said Moore provided his license and registration to them.
The police officer then returned to his vehicle to do some electronic records checks. Moments later, Moore fled from the scene, driving eastward on Pepper Street at high speed, Monroe police said.
The police officer followed and attempted to stop Moore again, and as the officer was following him, Moore threw small plastic bags of marijuana out of the car windows onto the roadway, Monroe police said.
Approximately seven bagged ounces of marijuana was later collected from the roadway, Monroe police said.
Monroe police said that due to Moore's high speed and reckless driving, they ended their pursuit. Monroe police informed Newtown police of the situation, providing a description of Moore's vehicle.
In their arrest, Monroe police charged Moore with possession of more than four ounces of marijuana; possession of narcotics with intent to sell; reckless driving; engaging police in pursuit; driving with a suspended license; and traveling unreasonably fast.
After that arrest processing, Moore was released on $15,000 bail for an upcoming appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
