Occupation: For the past 26 years I have been a military and civilian pilot. I am currently a corporate pilot for General Electric, flying the S-76 helicopter in the New York area.

Family: I have a wonderful wife, Heather, affectionately known as “Miss Heather” to the moms and kids in her Kids Fit program in town. We have three sons, Cameron, 22, who is attending Clemson University, Tyler, 18 and a senior at Newtown High School, and Carter, 13, who is a seventh grader at Newtown Middle School. I also have a brother who lives in the Philadelphia area.

Pets: Depending on the season, we may have snakes, bugs, or gerbils around. We also have a pet dog, a designer mutt called a Goldendoodle, named Chamois.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I have lived here for 11 years since moving from Virginia.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy hunting, fishing, restoring our vintage home, and sports. I am a History Channel regular and enjoy studying American history, with emphasis on the Civil War. Since coming to Newtown I have been privileged to be involved with Newtown’s youth through the youth and high school lacrosse programs. Having had the opportunity to coach in the youth program and high school winter lacrosse program has been very rewarding.

Do you have favorite book? The Volvo 240 series repair manual. I’m reading more about BMWs now, since that book has more pictures.

What kind of music do you have in your CD player right now? I have Keith Urban, The Doors and a mix from my son. And I am listening to Gretchen Wilson. I guess it’s quite a combination. I enjoy most music, from classical to country to rock and roll. But I can’t relate to rap — sorry, JZ.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I like the mountains, especially the Appalachians. I like visiting historical sites and battlefields, but I think it’s more important who you vacation with than where you go.

What is the best thing about Newtown? Newtown’s young people, far and away are the best thing about Newtown. They make it a wonderful place to live. They are involved in everything from the fire department and ambulance squad to community service to sports. And that is special. We need to recognize and appreciate their involvement more than we do.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be? My dad, Abraham Lincoln, and Vince Lombardi. They understood overcoming adversity and what being a real winner is all about. My dad passed away in 1982. He was the kind of guy who never made a big show of things. He was always there for me and never missed any of my sports events. I don’t know how he pulled that off, but he did.

Do you have a personal philosophy? There are no written guarantees that life will be fair, but in the end everything happens in a pattern for good. He who touches the most people’s lives in a positive way, wins.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years? I would like to be retired, so I have more time to put into coaching and more time with my kids and probably, grandchildren, by then. I’d like to be spending more time in the outdoors.
