John J.          Snopkowski

WWII Army Veteran

John J. “Papa” Snopkowski, 82, of Bethel, died June 19 at Danbury Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Angela R. (Casorio) Snopkowski. Mr Snopkowski was born in Scranton, Penn., on August 26, 1923, a son of Frank and Antoinette (Kulesa) Snopkowski.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol M. Donahue and her husband, Patrick, of Newtown; Sandra M. Grandon and her husband, Alain, of Danbury; three sisters, Tessie Miklaszewski and Lydia Yaglenski, both of Danbury; Helen Dziadkowicz of Scranton, Penn.; three granddaughters, Maureen Kimball, Linda Goodall, and Kelley Troccolo; ten great-grandchildren, Brian, Peter, Mallory, Gary, Jonathon, and Bethany Kimball, and Dawn, Paul, Rachel, and Ashley Goodall; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, five brothers, three sisters, and a great-granddaughter predeceased him.

Mr Snopkowski served in the Army during World War II, returning to make his home in the late 1940s in the Danbury-Bethel area after serving his country in Maui. Mr Snopkowski worked as a custodian for various area schools, including Frank A. Berry School in Bethel and Joel Barlow High School in Redding. He retired from Shelton Pointe Corporate Park after ten years of service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 23, at 10:30 am, at Sacred Heart Church, 12 Cottage Street in Danbury. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. The family was scheduled to  receive friends at Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street in Danbury, on Thursday, June 22, from 6 to 9 pm.
