To the Editor:

Gary Wheeler has been a Newtown police officer (now retired) and a school bus driver for 46 years.  We had the wonderful opportunity of having Mr Wheeler chauffer our children from kindergarten through high school.  Last Wednesday was his final school bus run.

We drove by many of his morning and afternoon stops and watched as children and parents, a whole generation,  said thank you.  Some of those parents, including us, put their children on his bus 20 plus years ago.  We felt secure and confident having that big teddy bear watching over our children.

He will be greatly missed.
