SHOP Supports The Community
Promoting local business and supporting community outreach is âhard to do without funding,â said Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) President Michael Burton. âSo, here we are.â
He addressed a room full of at least 60 guests sampling wine and enjoying a buffet dinner at the Stone River Grille June 16 during SHOPâs first fundraiser to benefit its programs, the Newtown Scholarship Association, Newtown Youth & Family Services, and the FAITH Food Pantry. In addition to a beer and wine tasting, the evening included a silent auction and raffle.
SHOP Vice President Joe Hemingway, with his daughters Maggie and Sarah and his wife Maribeth, said, âThis is excellent, a great turnout.â Glancing around the upstairs hall at the restaurant Saturday, he said, âThis is more than I expected.â Noting the many SHOP members who âpitched in,â he said, âItâs for a good cause.â
Guests John Koschel, Johnny Koschel, and Rich Ditullio were enjoying the night, along with David Wolff, Neci Marr, and Irene and Chris Caulfield. Ms Caulfield owns Sabrina Style. While John Truitt spoke with Mr Hemingway, Peggy and Gary Fillion were viewing nearby artwork up for auction. She volunteers with the Planning and Zoning Commission, while he volunteers on the Lake Zoar Authority. Both admitted that they were big SHOP supporters.
First Selectman Pat Llodra was among the host of artists, vendors, SHOP members and guests.
