Scott Bricher, June 27—

SCAN Program Will Offer Critique Of Member Works

On Wednesday, June 27, at 1:30 pm,  The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Scott Bricher conduct a critique of works by the artists’ collective. The program will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

The public is invited to observe this interesting process, free of charge.

Mr Bricher plans to analyze the artwork while asking questions such as What are the strengths of the piece and what can be done to make it stronger? What are the goals of the artist and have they been achieved?

“All suggestions are made with the positive intention of collaborating to make better art. I find that through this inquiry I learn as much about myself as the artist I am critiquing,” said Mr Bricher.

“Learning to critique was part of my training when I studied painting at the Art Students League of New York with Nelson Shanks,” he added. “When I became a teacher I discovered that the critical process of evaluating others work strengthens my vision. It is like working on an entire classroom full of paintings. I think that those interested in participating in the critique will find it enlightening and rewarding.”

Scott Bricher has created artwork for exhibitions, portrait commissions, magazines and advertising clients since the mid-Eighties. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio, drawing, painting and playing music.

In 1984 Mr Bricher graduated with honors from Parsons School of Design in New York City and continued his painting study at the Art Students League. He embraced digital media in the early Nineties and his work now incorporates everything from oil paint to pixels. He recently began to explore the ancient medium of encaustic and loves the age and texture the medium provides.

Mr Bricher teaches and demonstrates painting around the country.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs but additional information is always available from Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654, or online at the group’s website, www.SCANart.org.
