National Qualifiers Make A Splash

Michael Senf, of Newtown, and teammate Blaze Kelly, of New Milford, qualified for Nationals after winning gold medals in the 2x light weight junior men’s category at the Northeast Junior Regional Rowing Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester Mass in May.

More than 1,500 rowers from across the country converged on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge Tenn. for the 19th annual National Junior Rowing Championships, June 9-11. Senf and Kelly competed for three grueling days, and made it to the finals where they earned a silver medal in a race against five of the best 2x lightweight boats in the country.

Immediately following the medal ceremony, Senf headed for Pittsburgh where he received an invitation to train with the National Team for the next three weeks. This training will wrap up with the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia in the final weekend of June.

Senf rows for GMS Rowing in New Milford. He has been rowing for two years and is looking to continue his rowing career in college.
