Garner Inmate Arrested In Prison Assault Case
State police said they received a report about 11 pm on June 12 concerning an inmate having assaulted a correction officer at Garner Correctional Institution, the stateâs high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, so they went there to investigate.
State police said their investigation showed that inmate Julius Fleeting, 39, assaulted and injured a 30-year-old male correction officer. Also, two other correction officers were injured while subduing Fleeting, state police said.
The three correction officers were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said.
State police arrested Fleeting on a charge of assault on public safety personnel. He was arraigned on the charge on June 13 in Danbury Superior Court.
Fleeting is serving a 30-month prison sentence on a conviction for criminal attempt to possess narcotics. Fleeting was being held this week at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers and is scheduled to return to court on June 26 to enter a plea to the assault charge.
