CT Historic Gardens Day,

June 24

The 9th Annual Connecticut Historic Gardens Day will take place across the state on Sunday, June 24. Fourteen historic gardens will be offering special activities emphasizing their location from noon until 4 pm. Programs and fees will vary, but the hours will be the same at all Connecticut Historic Gardens (CHG) member locations.

Volunteers at Osborne Homestead Museum, 500 Hawthorne Lane in Derby, will offer special tours of the museum’s Colonial Revival gardens. Guests can also visit the historic house museum and learn about Frances Osborne Kellogg’s passion for gardening and land conservation. Free museum and garden tours will be offered every half hour on the hour.

Additional local CHB members gardens that are participating include Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden in Bethlehem, with free tours of the grounds and iced tea (regular admission will apply for tours of the historic house); Glebe House Museum & The Gertrude Jekyll Garden in Woodbury, with garden tours, lemonade and cookies, and a sale of garden books, plants from the garden and related items; Promisek at Three Rivers Farm in Bridgewater, which will continue its celebration of the restoration of the Beatrix Farrand garden; and Weir Farm National Historic Site in Wilton, with short informal talks in the Sunken Garden and Secret Garden, and share watercolor supplies (beginning at 1) for those who would like to try painting within the landscape (artists are also welcome to bring their own materials and set up for the afternoon).

The Connecticut Historic Gardens Trail offers visitors an opportunity to explore a variety of garden styles and time periods. More information about Connecticut Historic Gardens and CT Historic Gardens Day, including names, addresses and phone numbers for all member locations, can be found at CTHistoricGardens.org.
