Brookfield Craft Center Announces Summer Gallery Series

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Craft Center will present a series of exhibitions this summer featuring the work of local craft artists in a variety of media.

To further highlight the variety of craft and creative work produced in the community, the opening of each show will be sponsored by local vintners, restaurants and farmers.

The exhibitions are intended to shine a spotlight on the high quality of locally produced handmade fine crafts, such as pottery and jewelry and the artisanal wines and foods of Connecticut. The first exhibition, “Local Ground: Pottery and Ceramic Work from Around Here,” will feature pieces in clay by local potters, sculptors and tile makers.

Sarah Bernhardt, Joy Brown, Clare Lewis, Elizabeth MacDonald, Alison Palmer, Christine Owen and others will all be represented in the collection, to be on view June 30 to July 15. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, from 6 to 9 pm, and will be sponsored by DiGrazia Vineyards and RW’s BBW, both of Brookfield.

The series will continue with “Local Adornment: Jewelry, Baubles, Bangles and Beads,” July 21 to August 4, with works by local jewelers, bead makers and designers; “The Village Smithy,” featuring works in iron and steel by local blacksmiths, August 18 to September 1; and “The Forest and The Trees,” with work of local turners, weavers , knitters and basket makers, September 22 to October 6.

Brookfield Craft Center, at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 25) in Brookfield, can be reached at 203-775-4526. Additional information is also available at www.BrookfieldCraft.org.
