Weller Foundation Honors Newtown High School Students
FAIRFIELD â In recognition of their exemplary achievements, six Newtown High School seniors were recently presented with awards by the Woodbury-based Weller Foundation, Inc at its Annual Awards Banquet held in May at the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University.
The recipient of the $4,000 Weller Education Scholarship is Erin Baier, daughter of Stephen and Michelle Baier. This scholarship was established in 2002 by the foundation to assist a senior to further his/her interest in teaching elementary or secondary education. Erin will be attending Quinnipiac University this fall to pursue studies in Elementary/Special Education.
Recipients of the $2,500 Vincent A. Voccia Vocational Award are Laura Brown, daughter of Mr and Mrs Duncan Brown, and Daniel Cartisano, son of Mr and Mrs Marc Cartisano. This award was established in 1983 by the foundation to be presented to seniors to assist in preparation for a vocational or technical career. Laura will be attending Connecticut Culinary Institute this fall to pursue culinary arts. Daniel will be attending Wyotech to pursue an automotive mechanic program.
Elizabeth Philbrick, daughter of Tom and Paula Philbrick, is the recipient of the $500 Senior Science Award. This award was established in 1962 to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in science. Elizabeth will be attending Tufts University of Connecticut this fall to pursue biology.
The recipient of the $500 Eleanor F. Moore Business Award is Christopher Gindraux, son of Mr and Mrs Frederic Gindraux. This award was established in 1973 to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in business. Christopher will be attending the University of Connecticut this fall to pursue business management.
Amanda Krause, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Kraus, is the recipient of the $500 Paul W. Broggi Communications Award. This award was established in 1986 to honor an outstanding senior who has demonstrated the ability to achieve recognition in communications. Amanda will be attending American University this fall to pursue journalism.
