Subaru Accident

Motorist Charles Brooks, 17, of 7 Stone Gate Drive was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook about 5:45 pm June 10, when he attempted to make a left turn onto Fawnwood Road, but lost control of the auto and struck some curbing, police report.

The Subaru went off the road and then came to rest on Fawnwood Road, police said. Brooks was not injured.

Police issued him an infraction listing charges of making a restricted turn and failure to carry a driver’s license.

DUI Arrest

Police report that they stopped motorist Stanley Inabinnett, 45, of Ansonia for a motor vehicle violation at Interstate 84’s Exit 11 interchange at about 10:30 pm June 15.

After investigating, police charged Inabinnett with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation. Inabinnett was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on the charges.

DUI Charge

Police said they were responding to a call reporting an erratic driver, when they encountered a one-vehicle accident on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Glen Road, at about 2 am June 17.

Police said they learned that the vehicle involved in the accident was the subject of the previous erratic driving report. There were no injuries.

After investigating, police charged motorist Andrea Portanova, 22, of 4 Thomas Circle with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation. After she posted $50 bail, police released Portanova for a July 3 court appearance.

DUI Lodged

Police report they received a call about an erratic driver traveling on Route 34, so they went to the area to investigate at about 6:30 pm June 17.

Police said they then spotted a vehicle without a front marker enter the Exit 11 interchange for Interstate 84, so they stopped it to investigate.

After investigating, police charged motorist Michael Saresky, 38, of Shelton with driving under the influence, failure to have a front marker plate, and failure to have automotive insurance.

After he posted $400 bail, police released Saresky for a July 10 court appearance.

Boat Found

Police report that a rowboat was found unattended at the state’s Pond Brook Boat Launch on Hanover Road on the evening of June 12. Police are holding the rowboat for safekeeping. The owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at 426-5841 to claim the boat.

Jewelry Located

On May 29, a sterling silver necklace with an attached heart-shaped ornament was found on Valley View Road, according to police. The owner may claim the item by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station, telephone 426-5841.

Exit 11

About 11:30 am June 15, police stopped motorist Elizabeth Jolly, 39, of Old Saybrook as she was leaving the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84.

After investigating, police charged her with failure to display a front marker plate, driving while under suspension, and failure to return a suspended license to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

After processing, she posted $100 bail and was released for a July 3 court appearance.

Murano Rollover

Motorist John Staley, 58, of 42 Bennetts Bridge Road was driving a 2006 Nissan Murano sport-utility vehicle westward near 162 Berkshire Road at about 11:30 pm June 15, when the vehicle struck the metal guardrailing along the right side of the road, reentered the roadway, and then rolled over onto its roof off the left side of the road, Newtown police report. The crash occurred near Berkshire Road’s intersection with Gray’s Plain Road.

Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident, as did Monroe police. Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Staley to Danbury Hospital to be treated for unknown injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.

VW Vs Buick

About 9:14 am June 13, motorist George Bood, 79, of 4 Anthes Avenue, who was driving a 2000 Buick Park Avenue westward on Mt Pleasant Road, stopped for a vehicle in front of him, police report.

Westbound motorist Arthur Kotch, 68, of Redding, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, then struck the Buick from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Kotch a written warning for following too closely.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Church Hill Road in front of St Rose Church about 6:50 pm June 7.

Motorist Kenneth Stroud, 86, of Southbury was driving a 2007 Toyota Prius westward on Church Hill Road and was attempting to make a left turn into the church’s driveway, as motorist Linda Thunhorst, 40, of Bethel was driving a 2000 Volvo V-40 station wagon eastward there, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they found both drivers to be at fault in the accident, but opted against taking any enforcement action.

Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident in front of the Shell gas station at 67 Church Hill Road about 2:30 pm June 9.

The collision involved motorist Wendy Lewis, 31, of 55 Georges Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer, and motorist Gayle Schultz, 60, of Bethel, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla, police said. Ambulance volunteers treated Schultz at the scene, police said. Police issued Lewis a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Jeep Vs Acura

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of The Boulevard and Church Hill Road about 6 pm June 8.

Motorist Beth McCleary, 35, of 23 The Boulevard, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Sahara sport-utility vehicle southward on The Boulevard, was attempting to turn left onto eastbound Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Patricia Rockwell, 58, of 6 West Farm Ridge Road was driving a 2004 Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two SUV’s collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McCleary for a violation.

Broken Glass

Police said that they charged Julie Bondi, 44, of Cold Spring, N.Y., with second-degree criminal mischief early on the morning of June 16, after she allegedly broke multiple windows on two motor vehicles on Birch Hill Road.

After processing the arrest, police released Bondi on a written promise to appear in court on July 6.

DUI Case

Police said they spotted a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck being driven erratically northward on South Main Street on the night of June 17, after which they stopped it to investigate.

Police said they charged motorist Mark Passero, 69, of 2 Mt Pleasant Road with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation.

After he posted $60 bail, police released Passero for a July 10 court appearance.

Saturn Vs Toyota

About 6:15 am June 12, motorist Francine DeLuca-Champion, 27, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Saturn Vue, drove into the rear end of a 2002 Toyota Camry, which was driven by Peter Hearty, 41, of New Fairfield, police said. The accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Route 34. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned DeLuca-Champion for following too closely.

Route 34 Crash

Motorist Michael Cosmedy, 18, of Monroe was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicle eastward on Route 34 about 5:45 pm June 16, when he braked in order to make a right turn onto Jordan Hill Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist Ahmad Yama Mehraban, 27, of Clinton, who was driving a 1991 Honda Civic, then struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Mehraban received an infraction for following too closely.

Jeep Vs Volkswagen

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street and Schoolhouse Hill Road about 8 am June 11.

Motorist Joseph Camire, 58, of Westbrook, who was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, was stopped and was waiting on southbound Main Street in order to make a left turn onto Schoolhouse Hill Road, when southbound motorist Keith Hogenauer, 17, of 6 Georges Hill Road, who was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, according to police.

 Ambulance volunteers transported Camire to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, police said. Hogenauer received an infraction for following too closely.

Car Vs Dog

About 7:30 pm June 15, motorist Ted Smith, 51, of 96 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2002 Mercury Sable westward on Meadow Brook Road, when a dog ran onto the road, police said.

Smith braked and swerved in trying to avoid the dog, but collided with it, police said.

The dog was hospitalized for several days to recover from the injuries, police said. Smith was not injured. Police verbally warned the dog’s owner for allowing a dog to roam.

Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclist Jonathan Gorman, 52, of Shelton was driving a 2007 BMW westward on Route 34 about 9:30 am June 16, when he rounded a curve and then spotted a westbound 2003 Subaru Forester driven by Edward Pankowski, 50, of 18 Oak Ridge Road, which was stopped and was waiting to turn left onto Jordan Hill Road, police said.

Gorman could not stop in time, so he intentionally dropped the motorcycle and slid into the rear end of the Subaru, coming to rest on the westbound road shoulder, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Gorman to Danbury Hospital to be checked for unknown injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.

Police issued Gorman a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

South Main MVA

About 4 pm, June 14, motorist Robert Comfort, 56, of West Haven, who was driving a 2003 GMC van southward near 99 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the GMC was hit from behind by southbound motorist Thomas O’Donnell, 44, of Loveland, Ohio, who was driving a 2007 Ford Fusion, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned O’Donnell for following too closely.

Berkshire Road

About 5:15 pm June 7, motorist Charles Ekstrom, 40, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry westward near 42 Berkshire Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Kelly Fagan, 17, of 113 High Rock Road, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Fagan a written warning for following too closely.

Pine Tree Hill Road

Driver Edward McCarley, 65, of Danbury was driving a 2002 Lincoln Town Car cab southward near 28 Pine Tree Hill Road about 2:40 pm June 14, and then pulled over to the side of the road to discharge a passenger, police said.

Motorist Lorie Maurer-Woloszynski, 46, of 16 Winton Farm Road, who was driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan southward, then struck the Lincoln from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Maurer-Woloszynski for following too closely.

DUI Warrant

On June 19, police arrested Patrick J. O’Connor, 49, of 11 Avalon Way on a warrant, charging him with driving under the influence and with reckless driving in connection with a March 10 two-vehicle head-on accident on High Bridge Road.

O’Connor was driving a pickup truck that crossed the road’s centerline and then collided head-on with a sport-utility vehicle, police said.

After he posted $50 bail, police released O’Connor for a July 10 court appearance.

MV/Drug Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Anthony Cota, 27, of Derby for driving too fast on Hattertown Road on the morning of June 19.

After investigating, police charged Cota with traveling too fast for conditions, driving an unregistered vehicle, improper use of a marker plate, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing, police released Cota on  promise to appear July 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
