Opens Aquatic Center
BROOKFIELD â The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut opened up its Regional Aquatic Center on June 18, to the delight of hundreds of children who would be attending camp at Camp Greenknoll. In addition to being available to the campers, the Regional YMCA is also offering a Outdoor Swim Club membership from June 23 to September 3. The Swim Club membership includes use of the new Aquatic Center, a picnic area, playground and use of the Greenknoll branch indoor pool on rain days.
âWe are excited to be able to have this new facility open this summer and are we are hoping that members of the community will come out to enjoy this wonderful addition to the YMCA,â said Gary Kozak, president and CEO of the Regional Y. âWe are, however, continuing to fundraise for Phase II of this project, which will enclose the pool for year-round use.â Anyone interested in joining the Yâs Outdoor Swim Club should contact the Greenknoll branch at 775-4444.
The YMCA initiated a capital campaign to construct the Regional Aquatic Center and complete renovations to its Boughton Street branch in November 2004. Renovations for Boughton Street were completed in November 2006. Fundraising for Phase II of the Regional Aquatic Center is ongoing.
